I am a technology expert and researcher with twenty years’ experience of working in web development and learning technologies in both UK and Australian Higher Education. My research interests are in understanding how technology can be harnessed to make a positive contribution to people’s lives and allow them to flourish with a particular foci on digital education and immersive learning.

My PhD thesis examined the design and evaluation of a massive open online course on the psychology of elite sport performance delivered to over 1000 participants using motivational theory to help guide the research. I have published in Q1` journals and at international conferences.

I also have experience of leading and working in small and multi-discplinary teams to deliver innovative projects around digital learning and the positive learning experiences that are possible with high quality design.

My key areas of expertise and interest are:

  • the psychology of motivation and wellbeing with special reference to self-determination theory;
  • user experience, web accessibility, and universal design;
  • Virtual Reality (VR) with reference to empathic learning
  • mobile and wearable technologies;
  • open education and MOOCs;
  • STEM clubs and their role in engaging students into STEM disciplines and jobs
