Vanessa Crouch
As a teacher with 20 years of teaching experience in primary schools in Australia, Papua New Guinea and Japan, I’m passionate about leveraging technology for learning. My most recent job has seen me working with primary and secondary school teachers and how they use technology in their classrooms as an Education Officer: eLearning. I have experience implementing flipped, blended and online learning.
As well as being a Technology Demonstrator, I also work on a casual basis for the School of Education as a marker and tutor. I am also working on my PhD which is focused on how teachers’ confidence and proficiency impact how they use technology in their classrooms.
I have expertise in using a variety of tools for learning and have spent a number of years developing users skills with Microsoft tools. I’m a Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE), an Apple Teacher and I’m also working towards the Canvas Teacher accreditation.
Increasing student engagement in their learning means they will learn more effectively and be able to transfer knowledge more easily into an employment context. Connectivism and constructivism are my key philosophical frameworks.
Favourite Learning Tech:
Flipgrid: fabulous for feedback and student thinking.
Engageli: a game changer in terms of video conferencing and student engagement in tutorials.
WordPress: I’ve been using WordPress with students since the mid 2000’s. the youngest group I’ve use it with is Year 2. The importance of this tool is the ability to share learning and provide an audience for that learning.
Microsoft Education Suite: This is fairly limitless. The best aspects are related to collaboration and student connection.
Padlet: I’ve used this in many ways – resource page, receiving feedback, brainstorming, student research collator and once I even used it as a tool for students to create a continuous story together.
Kahoot! Fabulous for formative assessment and student check ins. I love the data in the back end!
Screencast-o-matic this is a screen recording tool that allows you to easily post edit your work. There are tons of these around and some are more sophisticated, however it does everything I want it to.
