We were very lucky to welcome Dr Nici Sweaney as guest speaker at our AI for Learning & Teaching Symposium in April. She is an Adoption Strategist, Consultant, Educator and Director of AI Her Way. Her work focuses on enabling individuals and organizations to utilize AI responsibly and effectively.

Nici spoke about the challenges of evolving AI use in higher education, with a focus on reimagining assessment approaches, and raised a number of important issues and key considerations including:

  • The challenges and the opportunities of AI in Education.
  • AI as a skillset, and the importance of teaching students how to use it.
  • Assessment reform, including literacy for staff and students, governance and policy development, curriculum reform and redesigning assessments.
  • New Assessments: Integrating AI OR Concentrating on human-centric skills.

Ideas must come from somewhere

At the July AIPP session participants explored pedagogical approaches to AI integration. We shared an international project as inspiration and a catalyst for conversations. The project, “101 Creative Ideas to use AI in Education” is an open access book, a crowd-sourced collection, compiled in mid-2023. Contributions came from 19 countries.
