Dr Tracey Chamlin
I am a Lecturer in Education (Special & Inclusive Education) with UniSQ and based on the Toowoomba campus. I have been with UniSQ since 2015 and my particular area of interest is ensuring students with diverse learning needs have access to quality education and are able to fully engage and succeed in their learning.
I have a varied background with a range of work experience having grown-up and lived in Hawaii for many years as well as lived and worked in both New Zealand and Australia. My educational background includes tertiary study, teaching and advisory experience in science, biology, environmental education, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and inclusive educational practices. I received my Bachelors Degree (Biology) from the University of Hawaii (Hilo) and my teaching qualifications as well as my Master in Education(Hons) through the University of Auckland (NZ). My Master’s thesis focused on teacher professional learning and individualised educational practices for underachieving students, including students with special learning needs and disabilities.
My PhD research focused on developing a deeper understanding of the experiences of early career teachers teaching students with diverse learning needs in general education classrooms using a constructivist grounded theory (CGT) methodology. Other interest areas for me include Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Multi-tiered system of support (MTSS), online learning, teacher education and professional learning, and collaborative and inclusive practices to support engagement and achievement for students with diverse learning needs in general education classrooms. Most recently, I have developed an interest in the ethical use of artificial intelligence to support and enhance learning.
How I Can Help
I am continuing to learn about the access and application of the wide variety of ed tech that we have available to use at UniSQ. I am a keen ‘onliner’ and really enjoy teaching and learning in the online space. In that regard, I am happy to share my experience with Engagli, Padlet, Zoom, and Moodle.
Favourite Learning Tech:
Engagli – I love the ‘classroom’ like feel of the platform and the range of tools available to support learning;
Padlet – Great way to share information and engage people. I also really like the ability to include graphics, pictures and weblinks;
Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) – I’m still learning how to use this tool but have been enjoying developing prompts and exploring how I can use GenAI ethically and effectively in teaching, learning, and research
