Dr Colin Jones

With 22 years experience teaching in Higher Education, I have recently moved into an academic development role, supporting other educators who desire personal and course improvements.

In my chosen field of entrepreneurship education I have a global reputation as an innovative scholar that has influenced educator practice through invitations to 40+ universities worldwide, my policy and practice work with both the United Nations and European Commission. Recognised for Teaching Excellence at the Australian Awards for University Teaching, and more recently as a Principle Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, I am highly motivated to help others to advance their teaching and learning aspirations.

Historically, I have struggled to learn and believe this ironically gifts me a sense of how learners experience difficulties. I would like to think I can use this to my advantage in being careful not to jump to conclusions about the teaching and learning contexts of others. As a result, I feel I can others to safely explore the possibilities of using technology in their teaching context to increase the possibility of superior learning outcomes.

Favourite Learning Tech:

A recent convert to H5P technologies, at present I am developing a raft of resources to support USQ colleagues to embrace active learning strategies in their teaching contexts.

I truly believe that technology holds the key to uniting our aspirations and student potential. I enjoy challenging colleagues by asking, ‘how will you be supporting your learners whilst you sleep’? Addressing this question opens the door to many possibilities to use technology to become a more responsive educator.
