Artificial Intelligence and Academic Integrity

What did you think of the video? There are quite a few signs in the first couple of minutes of the presentation that something is not right.

  • The term ‘schools’ is used rather than universities
  • The content does not immediately match the topic, which is artificial intelligence and academic integrity, not academic integrity generally
  • ‘Artificial intelligence generated research’ was stated
  • The video clip of factors affecting academic integrity has been available for about a year in the AIU’s SharePoint

That is the reality of academic misconduct. There is rarely one large and obvious sign that an assessment item has been compromised. Instead, the assessment usually shows a number of strange indicators.

That is the reality of academic misconduct. There is rarely one large and obvious sign that an assessment item has been compromised. Instead, the assessment usually shows a number of strange indicators.

Throughout the video we demonstrated the most common types of academic misconduct:

  • Self-plagiarism via the learning and teaching factors video clip
  • Collusion between Rian and Jasmine
  • Plagiarism by copying and pasting content into Quillbot
  • AI generated text via Jenni.ai
  • Contract cheating by seeking Lachlan’s assistance to produce the video
