Let me engage you! Using H5P to create interactive content to engage learners
Do you find it difficult to engage students in learning? Ever wondered what you can do to increase engagement and improve the student experience? This video is for you! It showcases a variety of learning content and activities created using H5P technologies and demonstrates how you can use H5P to engage students, deliver content, and solidify learning.
The student cohort within Australian universities is changing, with more students studying online than ever before. Despite this change, universities continue to deliver content using traditional methods of instruction that rely on readings, an on-campus lecture, and tutorials.
This passive, teacher-centred approach to teaching, however, has been found to disengage students, and lead to poor student experiences and increased attrition (Smith & Kaya, 2021). As such, there is an increasing demand for educators to adopt alternative learning and teaching approaches to improve the student experience and university outcomes.
A recent study at the UniSQ trialled a new approach to learning and teaching replacing traditional forms of content delivery (i.e., PDF documents) with Moodle books, changing paragraphs of descriptive text into active, multimodal content and activities, including text, videos, podcasts, interactive activities and more). Findings from the study indicate this approach to learning and teaching significantly increases student engagement and improves the student experience.
This is a subject which is very informative and promotes a highly interactive environment. The modules and other learning materials are straightforward and easy to understand. It promotes critical thinking and reflection on the criminal justice system.
This was a great course to study, and the content was very engaging. Each module had interactive activities which I found helped me engage more with the subject matter.
Excellent online modules with great information and helpful learning activities.
Very engaging course so far! Has a good mix of learning through reading, activities, and video! Which is great for me as sometimes I have trouble learning from just reading
