Digital Initiatives: HyFlex-Beyond Blended Pilot
HyFlex-Beyond Blended Pilot
Analogy for Understanding: Adopting a HyFlex model is like moving from a traditional cinema (where you must be in a specific seat at a specific time to see the show) to a modern streaming service. While the “live premiere” (synchronous) is available for those who want the collective experience, the “on-demand” (asynchronous) version is designed to be just as high-quality and interactive, ensuring no viewer is disadvantaged by their schedule or location.
Ask yourself …
- How do I continue to offer quality online learning and improve my teaching practice in an ever changing higher education scenario?
- How do I design learning to leverage the opportunities of AI and provide accessible, flexible, and equivalent learning experiences for all students?
- Why do most of my students NOT attend on campus or online classes and should I worry?
- How do I provide student choice for how and when they want to learn?
- How do I know if students are engaged with their learning if I cannot ‘see’ them?
- How do I effectively embed educational technology and AI tools into teaching and learning to benefit students?
Why should you join the pilot?
- To shift learning design and teaching practice to provide equivalent learning experiences and potentially higher engagement for all students.
- To develop and pilot a bespoke approach to teaching and learning (signature pedagogy?), for example: balancing synchronous and asynchronous learning; implementing effective hybrid teaching; offering more flexible options for student engagement.
- To engage with supportive educational technologies and AI tools.
- For self-satisfaction, collegiality, promotion, and to make a difference for your students.
- To make a difference in what we do in higher education (we have to change, we have to shift).

Join the Pilot Phase 2
UniSQ has been invited by JISC (UK) to Phase 2 of the ‘Beyond Blended‘ pilot.
In 2026 the FlexEd Beyond Blended (FBB) pilot (new name!) aims to achieve asynchronous learning equivalence and integrate AI into learning and teaching
This pilot is open to all courses and programs in T1, T2, T3 (2026).

Learning and Teaching Futures
Current TechDem Digital Initiatives
Cadmus Pilot
Cadmus is an online assessment tool can be used for a range of written assessment tasks like essays, literature reviews, lab reports, tutorial activities, and exam alternatives
TechDems is supporting the exploration of Cadmus in 2024.
Cogniti Pilot
As part of the AIPP, the Chatbot Creation sub-group is undertaking a pilot of Cogniti AI in 2025.
This platform allows us to make our own Study-bots which support students to engage with the bot as a guide to course materials. It also allows us to create Persona-bots which are more nuanced, and can enter into dialogue with students.

Engageli Project
Engageli is an online learning environment that aligns with virtual campus objectives. It supports synchronous, asynchronous and hybrid modes.
UniSQ have committed to roll out this tool academics and courses over the next three years.

Global Learning @ UniSQ
We are currently scoping and planning a Global Learning Pilot for 2025, that will enable students to engage with diverse cultures and perspectives through online collaborative learning platforms.

HyFlex-Beyond Blended Pilot
The Learning and Teaching Futures HyFlex-Beyond Blended Pilot aims to shift learning design and teaching practice to provide equivalent learning experiences and higher engagement for all students.

Student Portfolios using Create@UniSQ
TechDems successfully piloted student WordPress Portfolios via the Create@USQ portal in 2021-23.
As of June 2023 this is an ongoing project rollout for all programs, disciplines and courses as required.
