How do you embed assessment into student ePortfolios?

At the Technology Demonstrators ePortfolio SIG meeting today we grappled with approaches to embeddded assessment. The participants were from a variety of schools and university sections and conversation flowed. Here are the main points discussed and resources to share.

Planning

Julie reminded everyone of the Teacher Guide for implementing WordPress portfolios (this can be used for any platform!). This includes 6 essential steps to successfully integrate student portfolios into your course and program. A downloadable interactive PDF file can be used for individual and program planning.

Example: EDM8004 – Dr Lisa Ryan

Lisa talked us through the School of Education approach to assessment in this post-grad course noting that:

  • Education students are required to demonstrate performance against Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APSTs)
  • There are 7 Standards (36 focus areas)
  • Assessment 2: ePortfolio – students demonstrate performance against 7 standards (14 FA) using STARR framework
  • This is an AUTHENTIC assessment
  • The rubric reflects the nature of the assessment task with a focus on content

Other examples and resources

We have setup online Google slides sharing Lisa’s example and other resources.

How are you approaching ePortfolio implementation and links with assessment? Please contribute to the slides or in the comment section of this post – examples as well as ideas and questions.
